Taking to Twitter, Infinity Ward explained why it decided to remove the Al-Raab Airbase and Drainage maps from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. According to the developer, the maps were removed because they weren’t “quite ready,” and needed some more development time. Infinity Ward then promised that it would update fans on when the maps would be returning to the game, but it didn’t offer a timetable as to when that may happen....

Infinity Ward explained that thanks to the new graphics engine, the development team is able to design multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare that support a variety of team sizes. The new Gun Fight mode, for example, features small scale arenas that best suit the fast-paced 2v2 action. From the small scale to the large scale, Modern Warfare can then blow things up to give a big team battle feel. It may not be on the level of a Battlefield game, but these maps felt much larger than anything seen in Call of Duty thus far....
