This is another banner achievement for the Call of Duty series, which is the best selling game of the year for the ninth year in a row. Though Call of Duty: WW2 is something of a return to form for the popular game series, the war-themed titles have always had the fan base needed to back up their releases, no matter how they were critically received. Even years that might be considered an “off year” for Call of Duty typically deliver strong sales, enough to top the list for that year.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, made a statement in resp0nse to NPD’s announcement, thanking the fans for their unwavering support:
In other recent Call of Duty news, the latest Winter Siege update has brought with it the opportunity to play an old fan-favorite game mode in the newest World War 2 shooter. Alongside a new range of winter-themed items, double XP rotations, and free loot boxes, Call of Duty has brought back Gun Game in its latest release.
As part of the holiday event, which all players will have access to until January 2, soldiers will be able to unlock new Winter Siege weapons by taking part in a number of multiplayer matches or purchasing them using armory credits. The Winter update doesn’t bring huge changes to the game, but it’s a nice touch from one of the newest FPS titles on the market.
Call of Duty: WW2 is out now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
