The new Call of Duty: Warzone update makes it possible for players to drop their weapons in the game. Dropping weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone works just like dropping cash or anything else in the game; players simply go to their inventory, scroll over to their weapon, and choose to drop it. While this may not seem like a big deal to everyone, it actually has huge ramifications for how Call of Duty: Warzone matches could play out, especially towards the end of any given game.

For example, prior to the ability to drop weapons in Call of Duty: Warzone, if a player died, won their Gulag match, and then respawned, they would only have the starting pistol to defend themselves. They could choose to land near a loadout drop, but those are often watched by enemy players and this typically leads to a quick death. The safest bet has been to land by teammates that are still alive and hope they can provide protection long enough for the freshly respawned player to loot for better weapons, but now teammates can simply drop a gun for their teammate.

The ability to drop a weapon in Call of Duty: Warzone has been requested by fans since the game’s launch in March. Considering this, it’s surprising that Infinity Ward didn’t mention this new feature in the game’s patch notes.

Infinity Ward made some other changes to Call of Duty: Warzone in the new update. Perhaps the biggest change is the addition of the new Most Wanted contract type, which makes players a bounty target for all their enemies at once. While this is a huge risk, the reward is also pretty big because successfully completing a Most Wanted contract will let players re-deploy all of their dead teammates. And now that players can drop weapons for their friends, the Most Wanted contract should be even more appealing than it would be otherwise.

Moving forward, fans can expect Infinity Ward to continue supporting Call of Duty: Warzone. Warzone Season 3 is still ongoing after all, so fans can expect new content on a regular basis.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
