With the game now being two years old, many expected some kind of anniversary celebration for Call of Duty: Warzone, though that has not happened. Instead, the festivities have been limited to a single Tweet from Raven Software that focuses on the battle royale title becoming two years old. Given how much could be done with anniversary content, this is certainly a bit strange.

What Call of Duty: Warzone Could Have Done For Its Anniversary

As shown via a post by Reddit user Nintendo_Pro_03, many Call of Duty: Warzone players are shocked by the lack of anniversary content. Most games-as-a-service titles celebrate major anniversaries with some limited time events or bonus items, but nothing special has been done for Call of Duty: Warzone’s second birthday. In the comments, many were quick to point out how bloated the game is, saying that more content could lead to more bugs, though this should not stop anniversary celebrations from taking place.

While it is true that Call of Duty: Warzone has been very buggy as of late and boasts a massive file size, anniversary content would not need to be anything major like an extra map, fresh weapons, or more game modes. One possibility could have seen Raven Software giving players a major discount in the in-game store for the weekend as a way to celebrate the game becoming two years old. This way, no new content would have needed to be added at all, and players would be motivated to purchase some of the bundles available to them.

Another possibility could have seen Verdansk added back in briefly, with many missing the game’s original map and wanting to see it return. While the focus should remain on Caldera so that the player base is not split, a “one night only” event where players get to enjoy the classic map could have seen many players flocking to the game to celebrate the milestone. Even a free bundle in the story with a two-year anniversary emblem and calling card would have been a nice gesture.

As pointed out in the comments of the Reddit by BigBoi, nothing special was done for the first game’s anniversary either. This is something that Raven Software should strive to improve upon with Call of Duty: Warzone 2, though, as gamers clearly expect to see some special content added on important dates like anniversaries. With games like Overwatch having memorable anniversary events, Call of Duty: Warzone not doing anything special feels like a missed opportunity.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
