Call of Duty: Warzone’s footstep audio has been problematic since the game launched, with a few different issues tied to the sound. At times, it was far too quiet, with players not hearing where their enemies were – something guaranteed to result in their deaths. While this was eventually patched, another issue has proven to be just as prominent, as players are unable to nail down where their enemies are coming from. The directional footstep audio being so flawed has led to plenty of unfair deaths, as though players can hear that an enemy is coming, it is hard to identify where they are approaching from. As such, it is no surprise that players want it to be improved upon.

After several months of player requested changes to directional footstep audio, it seems like Raven Software is finally set to deliver those fixes. In the same media briefing where Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was confirmed, Raven detailed a number of fixes for the original Warzone. These include improvements for traversal, parachutes, and vehicles, along with buffs and nerfs. CharlieIntel listed out these issues on Twitter, and with a fan pointing out that directional footstep audio was not listed, CharlieIntel responded.
According to the Call of Duty-focused publication, directional footstep audio will indeed be refined, allowing players to hear exactly where their enemies are at. Unfortunately, this fix is not coming in Season 2, with CharlieIntel reporting that the adjustment is schedule to release in Season 3 instead. Seeing that Season 2 has not even started yet, as it begins on February 14, players will be dealing with the footstep audio issues for a lot longer.
With Season 3 likely dropping sometime in the middle of April, this news is obviously not ideal. Still, as is the case with any other Call of Duty: Warzone fix, it is better that it comes eventually instead of remaining a permanent problem. Hopefully, when Call of Duty: Warzone 2 makes its debut, footstep audio sounds great from the get-go. A smooth launch free from the problems seen in the original game would be thrilling for Call of Duty fans.
While Call of Duty: Warzone players will be waiting a few months for the changes, it is nice to know that footstep audio will eventually be improved. While the game has been going through a rough patch recently, the future for the battle royale title seems bright.
