Unfortunately, a new bug makes the Riot Shield even worse, effectively making it useless in certain scenarios. It’s similar to another Riot Shield glitch that let enemies shoot through it, which originally popped up back in June, and prompted a response from Call of Duty’s Joe Cecot, who said the team would look into it. That issue appears to have been fixed, but the new one is a little more complex.

What makes the new Riot Shield glitch so frustrating is that most players won’t understand what’s happening until it’s too late. When climbing a ladder with the Riot Shield equipped, there’s a chance that it won’t be re-equipped when players reach the top — but it will appear to the player that they’re using it. Enemies, however, will just see the player hunched over grasping at air and be able to kill them in a matter of seconds.
The Riot Shield was already lackluster. It’s basically useless on the offensive and affords enemies plenty of opportunities to flank and snag an easy kill. With other weapons, like the CR-56, offering better loadouts and fewer issues, there’s no real reason to equip the Riot Shield for Warzone, at least not in its current state.
Season 5 of Warzone is now just around the corner, and Infinity Ward typically includes weapon patches in seasonal updates. However, with Season 5 a few days away, it’s not clear if this glitch will gain enough traction to be fixed in that patch, or if it will be relegated to a different one. Either way, hopefully, it’s something that Infinity Ward will manage to fix sooner rather than later.
On the bright side, Shadow Company is coming in Warzone Season 5, along with a mound of other content. While it’s a bummer that the Riot Shield is now even less useful, at least fans plenty to look forward to, as fresh maps, weapons, and changes to the meta are always a good way to spice up a shooter, especially as Modern Warfare gets closer to its 1-year anniversary.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
