After a nerf hit the VLK Optic during Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5, many fans considered the impact minimal to the overall bonuses of using this optic. Dedicated to finding the truth behind the scope, one Reddit user decided to run some tests and find out what is really going on.

Starting with an M4A1 setup, Reddit user Jey_M decided to run some tests revolving around the VLK Optic and some routine meta builds. The default setup is an M4A1 with an M16 Grenadier barrel, 60 Round Magazine, Ranger Foregrip, Monolithic Suppressor, and the VLK Optic. In each test, the gun’s build stayed the same other than the optic, which was swapped for a Scout sight and a C480 sight. Loaded into the Map Speedball, he chose a wall and a spot and begin to track the bullet spread of the guns.

The gun was set up for maximum stability. This is a common M4A1 Warzone setup that many pros and streamers have used in the past. No matter which scope is being used, the overall magnitude and bullet pattern remain relatively the same. This is all non-dependent upon the zoom multiplier and gives a good feel for how the gun responds outside of ADS results.

Still, this experiment is testing a scope, so the next series was to aim in and fire a full clip into the wall. In this setup, the recoil of the overall weapon is affected by the zoom multiplier, his test was designed to determine if reflex is penalized rather then the normal zoom optics bonus being applied.

All conclusions from the test were reapplied to a Grau 5.56 with a similar setup. What he found as a result of the test was that all three had the same stability and same magnitude and pattern. What this means is that the weapon no longer retains its 10% reduction on stabilization and instead is balanced to the other optics providing a limited zoom bonus while not adjusting for stability in the gun itself.

This does not go to change the opinion that many fans have as the VLK Optic is one of the better options in the game. Fans should just be aware that it may not have all the benefits that were around in previous versions of the game.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
