The Call of Duty franchise has managed to consistently deliver first-person shooting action to a huge fan base. With that in mind, it was not a surprise when the reboot of one of its most successful titles, Modern Warfare, was a commercial triumph. Nevertheless, the game has now achieved longevity through its updates, and introducing new elements and game modes will likely continue to satisfy the players of the title.

The image posted on Reddit shows an in-game screenshot of a message under the subject heading “Tactical Alert”. The message details Coalition SIGINT intercepting flash traffic from outside Verdansk (which is where Call of Duty: Warzone takes place), and it goes on to urge players to be vigilant for enemy surveillance on May 21. It seems that the content will be coming to Warzone very soon, and many players have begun to draw conclusions from leaked content about Call of Duty: Black Ops coming to the game mode. Some players have noted that the bunkers have had a “Black Ops vibe” and many will hope that the rumored cold war based Black Ops will be delivered, although this could be indicative of other updates to the franchise.

One fan has suggested that the map may be nuked at the end of this saga and possibly lead to a new Warzone map. Other battle royale games such as Fortnite have used similar tactics to change maps and this move would play into the emerging conventions of the genre. Some fans also suggested that it may be a hint at an upcoming Call of Duty title although that seems unlikely given the changes and messages happening within Modern Warfare. Either way, it seems that Modern Warfare will be adding even more content for players to enjoy.

Many players will now be playing Call of Duty: Warzone on May 21, to try and uncover the meaning behind this mysterious message. Until then, fans can only speculate what the true meaning of this mission is.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
