Ever since the Warzone Season 4 update, fans may have noticed that they can no longer kill enemy players in the lobby. Previously, players were able to rack up kills in the Warzone pre-match lobby to get some bonus XP, but that’s no longer the case. Now players can just shoot each other indefinitely and perform melee executions without forcing a respawn.

It’s unclear why this change was made, but perhaps it was to improve performance. By letting players kill each other in the pre-match lobby, it made it so players had to respawn and drop back in from the sky, all the while absolute chaos was going on at ground level. Maybe this was contributing to some of the bizarre Warzone glitches that would happen once players would actually load into a match, like not being able to jump out of the plane or the plane freezing in mid-air, but that’s just speculation at this time.
For one reason or another, Infinity Ward opted not to mention this change in the Warzone Season 4 patch notes, and so it’s unlikely that we will ever know the true reasoning. Whatever the reason may be for Infinity Ward to make this secret change to Warzone, it’s definitely been noticed by the community.
It’s possible that there were more secret changes made to Warzone in the Season 4 update that fans will discover as the season goes on, but there’s also changes that were actually detailed in the patch notes. One of the biggest changes was the introduction of Warzone in-match events, which can dramatically change the pace of any given battle royale match. For example, the Jailbreak in-match event lets all eliminated players respawn, assuming they didn’t quit out of the game.
Moving forward, Warzone fans can expect the game to continue evolving. Its ongoing event suggests that major Warzone map changes are coming in the near future, so fans should stay tuned for many more exciting updates.
