With frustrations running high, one Reddit user begged for Activision to get a reliable, long-term fix in place. According to u/CivChris, they “can’t count” the number of occasions where a game of Call of Duty: Warzone has been ruined thanks to a hacker. It was noted how “a lot of the time it’s not even obvious hacking like aimbot, it’s red boxing.”

It was stressed how once it’s obvious a hacker is in the lobby, gamers can spot them everywhere throughout the game, whether people are getting followed through walls or “[…] getting people who have just landed know exactly where you are.” It’s a tiring process and one that u/CivChris described as “endless.”

These issues aren’t isolated, either, unfortunately. Another Reddit user, u/rolandassassin, highlighted how they had encountered hackers across multiple games after enabling cross-play. The user recounted how they played two games with a friend who owned a PC. In both lobbies were “aimbots,” which they described as “beyond ridiculous trash.” Although they found the situation “funny to spectate,” rolandassassin noted how they can’t believe “how massive this problem is.”

Activision issued multiple bans during the year since Call of Duty: Warzone released in March, openly updating fans regarding its actions and zero-tolerance stance. Still, its bans and concerted attempts to stymy cheaters and hackers have yet to provide an infallible solution that would guarantee gamers a fair, engaging experience every single time they wanted to play.

Many streamers who had begun to feature Call of Duty: Warzone had previously shared their frustrations with the game’s influx of cheaters and hackers. Ninja, FaZe Pamaj, Call of Duty League Analyst Joe “MerK” DeLuca, and YouTuber Symfuhny, have all discussed hackers impacting the gaming experience in the past. The underlying consensus is that, although Call of Duty: Warzone is fun to play, the rise and persistence of hackers in the community creates a problematic experience that mires their enjoyment.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
