Whereas some games use fire or storms for their circles, Call of Duty: Warzone uses a green, poisonous gas. Like in other battle royale games, players want to travel across the Warzone map to avoid getting stuck in the gas wherever possible, as it deals considerable damage at a fast rate. However, there is one way that players can protect themselves from the poison gas in case they ever have to run through it.

The only way to protect against the poison gas in Warzone’s battle royale mode is by getting gas masks. Gas masks are somewhat rare, but can be found anywhere on the map. Gas masks can also be purchased if players manage to collect enough Warzone cash to do so. To put on a gas mask in Warzone, players just need to pick one up. There’s no extra button to press or anything, it just happens automatically by having one in the inventory.

Players who make it a point to stay within the safe circle won’t have to worry too much about the poison gas, but those who have to travel long distances will definitely want to have one on them. The gas masks in Warzone can also come in handy at the event of a match. The majority of the Warzone map will be covered in gas at the end, and so players have very little room to maneuver without taking significant damage. The gas mask will help mitigate this issue and potentially be the difference between victory and defeat.

Even if players are killed in the gas, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re out of the game entirely. Warzone players that die in the early stages of the game have a chance to come back using the 1v1 Gulag respawn system. Those relying on Self-Revive Kits will likely be out of luck, however, as they will be revived in the gas itself and likely die before they can get to safety.

Since Infinity Ward releases Call of Duty updates on a regular basis, it’s possible that it will add more ways for players to survive in the Warzone poison gas, or it may make some changes to how gas masks work. Fans of the Warzone battle royale should keep an eye on future patch notes for any changes.

Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
