Even through a true solos mode is currently unavailable in Call of Duty: Warzone, players can still technically choose to play alone without a squad. To do this, simply go to the bottom of the Warzone menu, where the Squad Fill option can be found. Switch it from “Fill” to “Don’t Fill,” and this will place Warzone players into a match by themselves. However, there is a huge downside to this that doesn’t make it ideal at all.

While Warzone players that choose not to fill out the squad can play by themselves or with one other friend, the enemies they’ll find on the Warzone battle royale map will almost all still start out in squads of three. This means that Warzone players who choose to play solo or with one other partner are putting themselves at an automatic disadvantage right at the start of the match. That being said, there are some ways that Warzone makes playing alone a little less frustrating than it is in other BR games, plus there’s an advantage to choosing “Don’t Fill” that we discovered in our time with the game.
First off, the ways Warzone makes life a little easier for solo players than similar games. Warzone makes it possible for players to revive themselves using Self-Revive Kits, which means players aren’t automatically out of the match when they go down. Furthermore, if players are killed all the way, Warzone makes it possible to rejoin the action by winning the 1v1 Gulag fight. With other BR games, solo players would just be out of luck.
As for the advantage to play Warzone with Don’t Fill selected, it seems to alleviate matchmaking issues for whatever reason. Finding a match with a full squad of three wasn’t always a guarantee in our experience, but finding matches went much quicker when playing solo or with one other person and Don’t Fill was selected. This is just anecdotal evidence, so fans shouldn’t take it as gospel, but it’s worth giving it a shot for any Warzone players having trouble getting into games.
In future, it’s likely that Infinity Ward will add more team size options in Warzone, just as other battle royale games have done. It’s hard to say when exactly such options will be added to the game, but it will likely happen sooner rather than later.
Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
