Call of Duty: Warzone’s performance boost patch arrived back in November for Xbox Series X. The patch allowed the battle royale game to run at 120 FPS on the newest Xbox platform, and while there were some occasional dips to 100 FPS, the upgrade was noticeable. However, this same upgrade was not seen on PlayStation 5, with most theorizing that this is because the PS5 used a backwards compatible version of the game as opposed to a port. Regardless of the reasoning behind this difference, Xbox users have been playing a superior version of the game for seven months.

Thankfully, Call of Duty: Warzone players on PS5 can finally enjoy this performance boost. While the platform may be seven months late to the party, those on Sony’s next-gen console should be satisfied with the update. Mentioned in the patch notes for the Season 4 Update, Raven Software has confirmed that players with an HDMI 2.1 cord can access this improved frame rate. Those without the cord will need to play on the familiar 60 FPS, however.
Despite this major improvement, the Season 4 update is still only 11 GB for PlayStation 5 owners. When paired with Call of Duty: Warzone’s texture pack for high resolution, players should be enjoying a far prettier version of the game on PS5. The texture pack is aimed at weapons and Operators specifically, and with these being two of the most important things in Call of Duty: Warzone, being able to recognize them easily is important.
While it is great to see that the PlayStation 5 version of the game has been heavily improved, many are still waiting on other next-gen boosts for Call of Duty: Warzone. Currently, players need to have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare installed to access the game. Further, there is no FOV slider on the PlayStation and Xbox versions, meaning that those on console are at a disadvantage when taking on PC users. As such, hopefully the game will get a dedicated app and FOV slider in the near future.
Regardless, this FPS boost for PS5 is great news, as most gamers would agree that the update coming so late is better late than it never coming at all. It has released at a perfect time as well, as the Ground Fall event and the rest of Season 4 have just gone live inside of Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
