Players were on watch, and with the release of the Call of Duty: Warzone Private Matches feature, fans got a chance to see the map early. Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 has tons of new content available, including weapons and cosmetics, but this will be the first major overhaul Verdansk has seen thus far. Due to this, many fans consider the new map extremely important to the future of the game.

On YouTube, a Call of Duty: Warzone content creator Bartonologist managed to catch footage of the new map. Call of Duty: Warzone is being taken back to 1984, where many of the iconic sites have changed across the environment. The map is described as a “flashback,” which is the main story reason that Call of Duty: Warzone players are being transported back in time. The map is brighter, greener, and newer, with many of the buildings sporting new paint. Many of the points of interest have changed, with the Dam replaced by a valley and the Stadium still under construction. Even the Gulag has changed, as it is now a copy of Standoff from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
Players have had a mixed reception to the map so far, with some players enjoying the “fresh” redesign and others seeing barely any difference. Call of Duty: Warzone’s map has been a long-awaited discussion, and it looks as if the developers just cleaned up the arena from many fan’s perspectives.
A travel back into time is interesting, but the community was expecting more from a nuclear explosion. Many Call of Duty: Warzone streamers hosted a “Goodbye Verdansk” stream, hoping for a more dramatic shift. While it is obvious that the YouTuber Bartonologist enjoyed the map change, the community is more confused than anything else, with fans in the comments agreeing that the map looks “Clean” rather than different.
In the end, many fans are considering this slight peek into Call of Duty: Warzone’s new map to be the equivalent of a texture pack update. The game may have undergone a nuclear explosion, but taking the map into the past has not impressed as many players as was originally predicted through leaks. Hopefully, when the map fully releases, players will get to find the new secrets hidden across the world.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
