With new Easter eggs appearing in Warzone after the last update, fans are now frantically trying to decipher the hidden terminology in these cryptic messages. So far, fans are convinced that the next Call of Duty will be set in the Black Ops timeline. That’s why an in-game image hinting at the return of Frank Woods has fans digging for confirmation.

The image was posted by Twitter user TheGamingRevolution. This fan uses their account to repost Call of Duty news, leaks, and information from across the web. When they posted an image of an interesting set of sentences, presumably from in-game, fans started trying to decode the message. The first line, “The bunkers are opening,” might be a reference to all the bunkers across Warzone’s map. With the last patch, players have discovered that several new bunkers are able to be opened and investigated. The second line, “It is almost time,” could be a clue as to the official reveal being near. Fans have been waiting a long time for Activision to announce the next game. This clue could be a sign that the wait is over.
The fans believe that the third line, “The shadows are here,” might be a reference to the object hiding beneath the dam. Many fans theorize that the shadow is a submarine that is barely visible through the ice. There have been thoughts of a nuclear strike coming to Warzone or Modern Warfare. If the hidden object is a submarine, it could be the point of launch for such an event.
The rest of the message is more cryptic. “We expected this,” does not have a clear meaning but the following lines remind many players of Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2. “And the prisoner? What do we do with him?” This line seems to be a clear reference to the most famous prisoner in Black Ops, Frank Woods. Many fans remember rescuing Woods in the forest along the Cubango River.
“Put him in the spire box. Let him rot,” is the line that has been most discussed among fans in the comments below this Tweet. Noone seems to be sure where a “spire box” would be but they have seen several spires across the map. From the park where the nuke is to the spire on top of the prison that players can not access fans are debating what this could possibly mean.
No matter the result, one thing that fans all agree on is that Frank Woods may be coming to Call of Duty 2020 or Warzone. Mix this with recent data leaks and a clearer picture starts to form about the future of Call of Duty.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
