This time around, the problem lies with one of the game’s most popular perks, Dead Silence. On paper, this footstep-quieting perk should give players one of the biggest advantages the game has to offer, allowing them to more easily sneak up on opponents. In reality, though, Infinity Ward has had difficulty getting Dead Silence to work right since it first debuted in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and while the perk itself seems to be working as intended in Warzone, the effect it has on players’ armor appears to be anything but.

From the looks of it, players who take damage are unable to refill their armor gauge while the perk is active. Reddit user Thanos-2020 shared footage of this in action during a close-quarters shootout against multiple opponents. Between gunfights, the button prompt for applying new armor plates can be seen going off in the lower-left corner of the screen multiple times, but nothing happens, leaving Thanos-2020 with only their base health throughout the whole thing.

Considering that even fully-armored players can go down very quickly under heavy fire in Warzone, Thanos-2020 ended up in a far more precarious situation than usual. This was further exacerbated by the fact that landing kills refilled the perk gauge, keeping Dead Silence active longer and further delaying them from being able to add armor plates.

Other Call of Duty: Warzone players replied to the footage with their own reports of coming across this issue, leading to debate over whether or not this is actually a bug at work. Most seem to think so, with the general thinking being that if the inability to equip armor plates while using Dead Silence was intended, there would be some sort of on-screen message telling players as much.

On the other hand, some players, Thanos-2020 included, do think that it feels like it could be an attempt at balancing out Dead Silence on Infinity Ward’s part. What’s noticeable is that the developer hasn’t made any comment on this issue like it has with previous glitches, so it is possible. But then again, it could simply be that it just hasn’t heard about it yet. Until Infinity Ward says something, players won’t know for sure.

Call of Duty: Warzone is free-to-play on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
