In Call of Duty: Warzone, the riot shield offers almost full-body protection and is the only weapon that can deal damage while keeping the user safe. It’s a relatively rare weapon to find, both because of its controversial nature and because it is available in Loudouts rather than loot boxes. However, it can be an excellent tactical weapon for solo players and teams alike.

According to YouTuber Rito Rhymes, the riot shield’s use has been seriously impacted by a glitch that causes it to disappear under specific circumstances. Reportedly, if a player has a riot shield equipped or in their inventory when they are downed inside a vehicle, that riot shield will vanish, never to return. When the player is revived, the riot shield will have been replaced by a “no weapon” icon, and the bug is incredibly consistent. This isn’t the first time the riot shield has been bugged, but it may be one of the most irritating.
Rito Rhymes stated in his video that it doesn’t matter whether gamers self-revive or are revived by their teammates – either way, the riot shield will be gone, leaving them down a weapon. The glitch will also not be affected by what happens to the vehicle after it’s shot or by the player being shot out of the vehicle. The only thing that seems to impact the glitch is whether or not the Call of Duty: Warzone player in question also has a shotgun. For some reason, players with a shotgun equipped or in their inventory will be able to keep their riot shield after being downed in a vehicle.
While this may sound like an easy workaround, there’s a catch. The bug apparently reactivates after players are downed and revived once. This means that gamers who want to ride around in vehicles with riot shields will have to pick up another shotgun to ensure the bug stays away from their gear. Glitches like this may explain why streamers like Dr Disrespect have a love-hate relationship with Call of Duty: Warzone.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
