Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is the sequel to 2020’s Call of Duty: Warzone and features the return of the series’ free-to-play Battle Royale gameplay alongside a host of new features and gameplay modes. One of the most exciting additions to the upcoming sequel, and one sure to pique the interest of players interested in more than just standard Battle Royale gameplay, is the all-new DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Warzone 2. Taking inspiration from Escape from Tarkov, this new mode pits players against AI and human foes alike as they try to scavenge the best gear and make their way to a safe zone.

In a post on the official Call of Duty: Warzone 2 blog, the developers discussed several changes to gameplay elements in the upcoming title and introduced a brand-new gameplay mechanic, enemy interrogations. Available when playing one of Warzone 2’s squad-based modes, players can now choose to interrogate downed enemies rather than killing them. Interrogating enemies will briefly highlight the locations of their allies on the minimap and outline their location in the environment, providing a huge tactical advantage.

As part of the overview of the new mechanic, the developers explain how they’ve worked to keep interrogations from being overpowered. Downed players will have the ability to call for help while being interrogated, marking their location for their teammates, with the effects from successful interrogations ceasing if the downed player dies or is revived. This should help ensure that interrogating enemies comes with a level of potential risk equal to the possible reward. Other gameplay changes covered in the post include new circle collapse modes, and more information about the controversial change to a 2-v-2 Gulag in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.

The introduction of the new interrogation mechanic in Call of Duty: Warzone 2 gives players a whole new way of gaining a tactical advantage in the online shooter and could help further differentiate the title from other battle royale games. Weighing the risk of whether interrogating a foe is worth potentially drawing the wrath of their teammates should add a new layer of tension to gameplay. No matter how gamers choose to play the upcoming shooter, though, they’ll want to make sure they have room for Warzone 2’s massive install size before the game’s release.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 launches November 16 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
