A lot of new stuff will be making its way to Call of Duty: Vanguard with its Season 1, including a battle pass and a brand new story. On top of new features and cosmetics, the battle pass and new events are also introducing a series of new armaments for players to try out.

Brand new weapons are coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard in Season 1, five of them to be precise, with a total of three guns and two melee weapons. These are not just new recipes for existing weapons, but entirely new guns on their own. Three of these weapons are part of the battle pass, unlocked at increasingly high tiers. The first is the Cooper Carbine, an assault rifle which is compared to the popular Automaton. It has a comparitively lower rate of fire, but more damage per shot. Provided it doesn’t get infinite ammo like the 1911, it should be fine without being game-breaking.
Up next is the Gorenko Anti-Tank Rifle, which falls into the sniper rifle family of guns. Meant to take out tanks as the name suggests, it can apparently one shot a player with ease, presumably even without a headshot. That said, it has a ton of kick, making it hard to land multiple hits even though it is a semi-auto weapon. Perhaps it could be used as a soft nerf to the Vanguard dog killstreak if players can take shots up close. The third gun is locked behind a future event or purchaseable in-store, and is an SMG called the Welgun. Little is mentioned about its stats except that it is comparable to the Stern.
The second weapon to be locked behind a future event is the Katana, presented as a melee weapon. Rather than a combat knife, players can bring an entire sword into a gunfight. Players are worried about bayonets making melee issues worse in Warzone, but how the katana may shake up Vanguard’s melee is anyone’s guess. Traditionally melee is an up-close affair, but mid-range kills could be meta shifting affairs.
The other melee weapon is acquired through the Battle Pass: the Sawtooth. It’s a short combat club sewn with shark teeth, which is cool, but how much it differs from the traditional combat knife remains to be seen. Hopefully players can get it through double XP playtimes without worrying about further Vanguard DDOS attacks.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
