As announced in a blog post on the Call of Duty website, Vanguard will be adding two new maps with Season One, both launching with the update on December 8. The headliner is Radar, a reimaging of the Modern Warfare 3 map Dome built for fast-paced combat. Dome was a fan-favorite map in MW3, with many calling for its return in the last few entries in the franchise.

The other map releasing alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard - Season One is Paradise, a weapons testing site located in the Pacific Ocean. According to the blog post’s description of the new map, Paradise is a joint operation training facility for Call of Duty’s operators. It has a three-lane design with a subterranean tunnel and pools of toxic waste.
The maps make up just a small portion of the new additions coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard, with other modes, weapons, and more slated to launch alongside the update. Call of Duty: Vanguard - Season One’s launch trailer gives the best look at the new content, and fans only have to wait a few more days before they can dive in for themselves.
The seasonal structure has helped Call of Duty stay relevant in a field with growing competition. Halo Infinite’s campaign is set to launch in just a few days, with Battlefield 2042 and Fortnite Chapter 3 also competing for attention. Together, they equal out to one of the most competitive shooter landscapes the games industry has ever seen.
Even though the new Call of Duty: Vanguard content is exciting, it’s important to remember the context in which it’s being released. Activision has seen employee walkouts, legal challenges, and developers quitting in droves due to ongoing issues with its response to allegations of workplace harassment and toxicity. There’s increasing pressure for Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick to resign, alongside controversy for how the company will be portrayed during The Game Awards. That won’t affect how many view the Season One content drop, but it is something to keep in mind.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
