The new SMG coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard is known as the Welgun and its Task Force Trident’s Isabella’s favorite weapon, which will help fans of the Operator progress through their challenges. Developers have stated that the Welgun fits between the Owen Gun and Sten in terms of its base statistics and it’s able to defeat most enemies in a maximum of four shots. Upon being added with the next Call of Duty: Vanguard update, players will be able to unlock the new SMG by earning it through completing in-game challenges or purchasing a blueprint from the Shop.

The new weapon blueprint coming to Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Shop will be added around the time of the SMG’s release and it’s offered in a bundle called Reserved Steel. Like many other guns in Call of Duty: Vanguard and previous titles such as Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare, the Welgun offers many attachments that become available as players use the weapon. Some of these attachments increase the gun’s performance and according to Sledgehammer, the available .380 and .25 ACP magazines can make the SMG even deadlier, defeating enemies in potentially two shots. In addition to basic Extended Magazines, the Welgun also has a 48-round drum of .380 ammo in the later weapon levels.
Call of Duty fans who enjoy close-quarters combat will be able to create a Welgun loadout in the first update of 2022, though the blueprint has been confirmed for the release window which suggests that it may be added a day or two later. It’s currently unclear what else comes in the Reserved Steel Shop Bundle, but it will likely include a selected mix of Call of Duty Calling Cards, Emblems, Weapon Charms, Emotes, or Watches. These other cosmetics will give Call of Duty players who purchase the Welgun further customization options.
Call of Duty: Warzone fans will also be able to add the Welgun to their weapon loadouts whenever they acquire a drop, while the weapon is expected to be scattered around the Caldera landscape as well. Both the free and premium Call of Duty: Vanguard Season One Battle Pass offer five free weapons that players are already working to unlock, with the Welgun being the sixth post-launch additional gun. Sledgehammer Games will likely make more announcements before the conclusion of Season One in the beginning of February.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is available right now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
