Originally, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 was set to start on June 3rd with new Battle Pass offerings, some new multiplayer maps, new Operators, and more. All of those items are still planned for release but the new Season 4 launch date has not yet been announced.

While this does not stop gamers from playing Call of Duty on their platform of choice it does delay the upcoming content for two of the biggest games in their respective markets. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been a massive hit for Activision and developer Treyarch, and players were greatly anticipating the release of Season 4.
Like many gaming companies, Activision felt that a release for any of its Call of Duty titles was not in the best interest of the studio and would take away from the current movements happening in America. Protests over racial inequality have been appearing all over the country and Activision believes that those individuals and groups deserve to be heard right now.
Activision’s postponement announcement follows Sony’s decision to delay its PS5 gameplay reveal event this week. Originally, Sony was planning to give fans a look at the PS5 in action through a number of gameplay demos/trailers. But, like Activision, the console manufacturer felt that it wasn’t the right time to hold an event.
With numerous events planned for this week, it feels like it is only a matter of time before other companies announce delays for their reveals. Electronic Arts confirmed this weekend that it was planning to show off Madden NFL 21 on Monday but felt it was in poor taste to do so now.
In addition to the Madden and Sony events, there are also the PC Gaming Show, Guerilla Collective, and a rumored Star Wars game reveal supposedly coming this week, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see some or all of those pushed back to later dates.
With companies around the world showing their support for the Black Lives Matter movement, the focus has been turned away from anything else. Numerous game developers have posted messages on social media to show their support while also making donations to various charities and funds. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 4 will release eventually, but Activision felt like now is not the right time.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
