In the official ‘Question and Answer’ section for Modern Warfare Remastered, Activision confirmed that the game will only be made available through the purchase of the aforementioned Legacy Edition. The first question in the Q&A that leads to this clarification simply reads: “How can I get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered?” The answer to this is sure to upset those hoping to simply access the game separately.
Further driving this point home, the following question on Activision’s site asks: “Can I play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered without buying Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?” The definitive answer to this is:
Given the popularity of Modern Warfare – a game that many herald as the defining installment in the Call of Duty franchise – the decision to package it exclusively with the newest iteration of the series is sure to leave some consumers miffed. With that said, this thought process does make a lot of sense when considering that this remaster could have cannibalized sales of Infinite Warfare. Therefore, making it a paid-for-part of the newest title isn’t all that shocking.
Given that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is only set to ship with 10 multiplayer maps, the slightly inflated price for it alongside the newest iteration of the franchise makes sense. Given the demand that surrounded a remake of Modern Warfare 2, however, the desire longtime followers of the series have to play the original game with some extra polish is sure to be incredibly high.
Even then, it’s possible that this decision won’t be a permanent solution, and it could pop up as a digital download later on. Of course, that’s not the current gameplan as of this writing.
