FMJ is a weapon perk that increases bullet penetration and damage against enemy killstreaks. Killstreaks can be incredibly powerful in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, so it is common for players to equip an LMG with FMJ to counter them without having to fill a weapon slot with a launcher.

Now, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players are saying that the recent patch nerfed FMJ so badly that it is not even worth using. The game’s subreddit has started receiving a variety of posts from frustrated players showing how poorly their FMJ weapons are performing when shooting down killstreaks. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare still has a sizable player base despite launching in 2019, and they have become very vocal bout the issue. One post, by Reddit user zombie2792 shows a single harrier killstreak taking nearly 100 rounds from an MG34 with FMJ equipped.
A comment on the post breaks the nerf down even more, saying that a UAV now takes around 12 hits with an Odin to destroy when it used to take only 3 or 4. The frustration with the nerf has many fans recommending that players completely avoid the FMJ perk altogether. Instead, many players are opting to equip a launcher to deal with killstreaks instead. The nerf does come after players have battled a strange glitch that causes players’ guns to turn invisible in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which makes aiming extremely difficult.
It is not clear whether or not the FMJ nerf was an intentional part of Call of Duty: Warzone’s Season 4 update, but it seems unlikely. Call of Duty: Warzone updates have caused issues in Modern Warfare before, including breaking a variety of the game’s perks back in April. Developer Raven Software was pretty quick to address the issues back then, so if the FMJ nerf isn’t intentional it will likely be addressed just as quickly. Hopefully, fans will get some news on when it will be fixed soon so that players can go back to running their preferred loadouts in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
