Since previous datamines only held content up until Season 6, the discovery will likely delight Call of Duty players hungry for fresh content. Infinity Ward has poured out a steady stream of content since Modern Warfare’s remastered launch last summer with weekly updates, and while weapon tweaks and playlists keep the game lively and fair, new maps are truly the community’s lifeblood, creating opportunities for original firefights and requiring seasoned soldiers to devise new strategies. There are currently 22 maps available for Modern Warfare and now it is clear even more are on the horizon.

Little is known about the new map files beyond their titles, and the fact that the new Drainage map will be devoted to the Gunfight game mode, though the file titled Oil Rig raises some interesting questions. Originally, Oil Rig was a map slated for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that was ultimately cut from the title and rendered unplayable. Given the revival of several maps from the original Modern Warfare, it would make sense for Infinity Ward to include other maps from earlier entries in the series—especially those that were cut due to time or budget constraints.
Previous datamines have provided Modern Warfare players with a wealth of information regarding content roll-outs, including a recent leak that revealed Modern Warfare’s Season 4 would launch on June 10th. Datamining isn’t always reliable, however, as developers often include files in-progress that ultimately remain incomplete, like the aforementioned Oil Rig map in Modern Warfare 2. And a data leak hinting at a new permutation of the franchise’s Zombie Mode also has yet to materialize.
The Season 4 Reloaded update brought a substantial amount of new content and changes to the shooter. The update includes new equipment like the glint-free spotter scope and the 0.50 Caliber Rytec AMR, and while players are still testing the waters with the new weapons, initial reactions on twitter seem favorable. The biggest highlight of the update, however, is the inclusion of the new Cheshire Park map.
Set in a fictional part of London, the new Cheshire Park map is a medium-sized arena, supporting standard 6V6 game modes with telephone booths for cover and a large central courtyard that serves as an improvised colliseum. Time will tell how it stacks up against the game’s other small-to-medium sized maps, like the iconic Shipment that turns every battle into a kill-streak feeding frenzy.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
