Now, players might actually have their wish granted, as Joe Cecot, the co-design director of multiplayer at the studio, recently hinted that a change to the rifle might be coming soon. Cecot hinted at the change on his official Twitter account, after a fan pleaded with the developer to make changes to the Grau in the future. Cecot replied, saying that a slew of different balancing issues with weapons would be addressed in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s midseason update.

While Cecot never explicitly mentioned the Grau in his follow-up tweet, given the fact that he was directly responding to someone who mentioned the Grau, it’s not unreasonable to assume that that’s one of the weapons he was referring to. While it’s impossible to tell what other guns he might have been referring to, the Fennec SMG has also been dominating the multiplayer since it’s release last week, so the developer might also be working on some changes for that.

As of the time of this writing, there’s no exact release date for the game’s midseason update. Given the timing of the current season, one can estimate that the midseason update might be coming in early July, but given how quickly things can change in today’s day and age (take Season 4’s initial release date, for example), it’s anyone’s best guess. It’s entirely possible that players might not see the balancing update until the end of the season.

While players will always find something to complain about when it comes to weapon balance, nerfing the Grau seems like a no-brainer. Given the number of times players see it or even use it in a match and the fact that it’s been a part of the game for so many months (it was a part of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s season 2 content drop back in February), it makes sense for the weapon to be finally phased out of the metagame. Here’s hoping players won’t have to wait too long before the update hits the game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
