Players currently taking part in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare open beta are reporting that progress and character levels earned on one particular platform is actually appearing on other platforms when they log in. Included items appear to be things like multiplayer level, unlocked gear, calling cards, emblems, and more. Traditionally, moving to a different platform would result in the player starting over from scratch, but with cross-save seemingly being enabled, players can pick up and continue playing from any supported platform.

The idea of cross-save and progression seems to revolve around the mandatory CoD Account that players need to create or sign into prior to playing. Not only does this account enable players to create and organize their friends list across all platforms, but it also seems to serve as the link between Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Battle.Net as well. By signing into this master account, their saves can move with them to any of the platforms. Infinity Ward has previously said that it was looking into adding cross-progression, so it’s not known if this beta feature is simply a test or a confirmed day 1 feature.
Cross-Saves and Cross-Progression is a first for the series and is a user-friendly feature that is still relatively new to the industry in general. Major companies like Microsoft and event Nintendo have lobbied for it, though Sony has traditionally been against it in the past. Fortnite seems to have been the tipping point for Sony, who received a ton of backlash from fans over its continued stance against cross-play. Other major games are starting to jump on board like Destiny 2, which has been experimenting with new features like cross-save and transferring player content between platforms.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
