Beginning on April 17th at 10 AM PDT, Modern Warfare players will earn double weapon and rank XP. The boost will last until April 20th at 10 AM PDT, giving players a full weekend of extra experience to level up weapons, burn through ranks, and unlock any new guns or gear they may be seeking. With Warzone becoming explosively popular, and Season 3 being so fresh, this weekend should prove bountiful for Call of Duty players on every platform.

Modern Warfare has experienced some bugs since launch, but community feedback surrounding the game has remained largely positive, or at least as positive as one could hope to get with one of gaming’s largest franchises. Still, community events like double XP are a great way for Infinity Ward to ensure a strong, engaged player base.
Infinity Ward has continuously tweaked balancing since Modern Warfare launched, leading to entirely new weapon tier lists as the game has evolved and changed. Some criticized the slower pace of Modern Warfare’s gameplay when it first launched, though Infinity Ward has introduced, or re-introduced, smaller and faster pace maps since then, leading to a relatively strong balance of maps.
That’s led to an impressive spread of content within the game, especially considering the addition of Warzone. The next Call of Duty has reportedly suffered from rocky development troubles, so players may be going back to Modern Warfare for some time.
Regardless, double XP should be a great way to kill a weekend for those looking for something to pass the time. With video game delays in 2020 messing with schedules, something as replayable as Modern Warfare is a especially valuable. One can h0pe that there’s more in the pipeline as far as games are concerned, but only time will tell.
