Over on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sub-Reddit, art director Joel Emslie, under his ArtPeasant tag, responded to a fan who created a thread to discuss the need for additional custom character slots. In short, Emslie agreed with the sentiment and revealed that the studio has been actively looking into it and is planning to add more slots in the near future, possibly in one of the next upcoming updates.

One of the reasons the additional custom slots were not added sooner is the fact that it has a tendency to cause additional bugs if it isn’t tested properly. Considering the current state of the game, introducing new bugs into the experience is something Infinity Ward would clearly like to avoid.

Emslie also revealed that the studio had a lot of tasks to complete prior to the launch of the game. Ultimately, not everyone has the required skillset to tackle this particular issue, so the team had to prioritize which tasks get resolved before the game launches. As he mentioned, the three year development cycle goes by in the blink of an eye.

While adding additional custom character slots should make a portion of the community very happy, most players would likely hope that the studio is able to address more than a few of the current exploits, glitches, and bugs currently ravaging the multiplayer side of the game. In addition to the previously mentioned XP bug, more than a few players have reported map specific issues like a glitched door on Piccadilly when playing Infected. Others have found a glitch while playing Ground War to earn very easy nukes incredibly fast. Either way, Infinity Ward certainly has its hands full in the coming weeks.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
