There are many arguments against crossplay, like in games that allow PC gamers to use a mouse and keyboard setup while those on console are stuck using controllers. Cheating is far more prevalent with PC games than it is on consoles as well, and so crossplay potentially exposes console gamers to more cheating than they would run into if they kept the feature turned off. Those on PS4 and PS5 can turn off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer crossplay whenever they’d like, but those on PC and Xbox do not have the option to do so at the time of this writing.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer launched today after a week of campaign early access, giving millions of gamers the chance to jump into the latest Call of Duty game. However, Xbox gamers have discovered that the game does not allow them to disable crossplay. Because of the aforementioned issues that some gamers have with crossplay functionality, some Xbox fans are not happy about this revelation, especially since PlayStation gamers are able to disable crossplay if they so desire.

Can You Disable Crossplay for Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox?

At the time of this writing, it is not possible for Xbox gamers to disable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 crossplay

It’s unclear why Xbox gamers are not being allowed to disable Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 crossplay at this time, or if the feature will be added at a later date. Activision has plenty of big Modern Warfare 2 updates planned for the near future, with November 16 scheduled to see the launch of the Warzone 2.0 battle royale and the new DMZ mode, and Season 1 Reloaded set to drop in December. However, it’s unclear what all those updates will entail, or if any of them will give Xbox gamers the chance to disable crossplay.

IGN pointed out that this was an issue that plagued the original Call of Duty: Warzone on Xbox as well, not allowing players to launch the game without having crossplay enabled. Activision has not issued a statement on the matter just yet, but for now, Xbox gamers will have to keep in mind that they will not have the option to disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer for the foreseeable future.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
